Recommendation
Since significant bowtie effect is observed in VIIRS observation, FILDA-2 provide the bowtie detection flag FP_Bowtie as an indicator of the scan overlap. FP_Bowtie is derived based on the careful examination of the VNP DNB and M-band overlap pattern, indicating the faction of overlap for a M band with all the potential DNB pixels. For the usage of the FRP data, it is recommended that use a threshold FP_Bowtie =0.8 to remove the redundant fire detection. For the usage of the VEF and MCE data, it is recommended that use a threshold FP_Bowtie =0.95 to remove the redundant fire detection.
FILDA is also very sensitive to the temperate and light anomaly at night and is capable to detect gas flares and industrial heating/burning areas. It is recommended to use FP_Land_Type=13 to filter out the thermal anomaly over urban region.
Users may also need to use the fire_mask to conduct rigid QA based on their application.
